The Sarandons - "Don't Mean Much" (Video)

Through the masterly mix of different genres such as Roots/Indie Rock, Americana and Neo-Psychedelia, just to name the majors, and a little bit of a vintage inspiration reminding us of unforgettable Toronto’s 60s Yorkville scene, The Sarandons grew into the contemporary Canadian music scene starting from early 2018. 

Damian Coleman (vocals, bass), Edmund Cummings (vocals, keys), Craig Keeney (lead guitar), Phil Skot (drums) and Dave Suchon (vocals, guitar) create, through a common creative process, nostalgic yet evocative atmospheres that only a perfect interweaving of melodies and lyrics is able to generate. In their words: This is “plush roots-rock impressionistic post-twang” delivering “melodic laddish beer-soaked holler ballads”. 

Their debut self-titled EP 'The Sarandons' from December 2019 put this band on the map, catapulting them to national acclaim in Canada and also receiving notoriety and revcognition from countries abroad. The Sarandons have had a strong first showing since releasing their music and have continued to maintaining their momentum.

Building on this momentum is the release of their new music video for their track 'Don't Mean Much'. A track with soothing vocals and a touch of nostalgia that hits the perfect 70's Folk Rock. This aura of nostalgia is encapsulated in the images we see in the video. Deftly edited by New York's own Ilya Katsap "Trax", this video shows shots of 60's Toronto (their hometown), Expo '67 in Montreal, and even some awesome shots of the 1959 Yankees with stars such as Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra to name a few. Best of all, all this footage comes authentically, taken by Dave Suchon's grandfather from the years 1959-1982. One of the more poignant moments is in the coda when we see a toddler learning to walk with his parents, with the lyrics "Oh, to begin" being passionately sung by Dave in harmony with Ed and Damian. That passage takes on a deeper meaning when we undestand the toddler is Dave himself with his late mother and still able-bodied father. One can't help but get goosebumps as the music and images come together. From world renowned greats like Mantle to the many personal stories, including Dave's own, this video with the music to truly create something beautiful.

It's Nostalgia on steroids, and the single 'Don't Mean Much' very much invokes a sense of the past but also offers a refreshing take on light-hearted rock n' roll. This one is sure not to be missed.
